Dr. Anne Tolvanen is a professor in forest ecology and the multiple use of forests (2009-) and the director of the Land Climate research programme (2021-2025) at the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). She has a doctor-level degree from plant ecology. Her present work concentrates on the reconciliation of land uses to safeguard biodiversity, and her group develops models and tools that are used in the planning and management of peatland and forest ecosystems. She has published approx. 100 papers in IF-rated journals and over 60 other refereed articles in scientific books and journals. Tolvanen has wide international collaboration through scientific research projects (International Tundra Experiment, Nordic restoration research, Nordic Co-Excellence group on Bioeconomy) and established networks (the Society for Ecological Restoration Europe, IPBES assessment on the sustainable use of wild species).
